The Accounting Manager is responsible for:
1) managing the external reporting process and
2) performing research for company accounting issues citing relevant Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) guidance both verbally and in writing to ensure that:
The consolidated books are closed each month in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Financial results are delivered to senior management and external parties efficiently and timely.
Company accounting policies are documented, communicated and followed consistently.
The Accounting Manager is an active participant of the management team in the achievement of the accounting department's goals and initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES
1. External Reporting - 60%
Work with finance teams and others within the Company to provide data for closing of the consolidated books.
Evaluate accounting impact of potential transactions or business strategies.
Responsible for working with the Planning and Analysis team to understand the development of the annual operating budget such that variance can be reconciled, analyzed and explained.
Responsible for ensuring that the financial results are communicated to senior management in a concise and efficient manner. This may include external reporting in compliance with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requirements.
Manage the Company's external financial statements, including timely and accurate submission of required quarterly and annual F/S, footnotes and Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) to banks and owners. This position is actively involved in drafting these financial statements including footnotes and MD&A.
Review and analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements;
Research accounting issues citing relevant Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) guidance via a formal written memorandum for external auditors.
Prepare materials for all Audit Committee meetings.
Review and ensure completion of key accounting reports and analysis.
2. Technical Accounting Research/Special Projects Management-30%
Research business transactions and document accounting issues; summarize results in a written memorandum.
Oversee and complete work on ad hoc reporting and analysis requests from the business related their area of responsibility.
Communicate and partner with the business as subject matter experts on various projects.
Identify and implement opportunities with team to streamline existing processes and eliminate redundant or non-value added work, particularly with the use of Excel or Access.
Lead, implement or control special projects.
Responsible for management of the Company's technical accounting position on various business initiatives and new or emerging GAAP guidance and its related impacts on the Company's financial statements.
3. External Audits, Interim and Year End -10%
Work with team and Sr. Director of Accounting on preparing and reviewing external auditor interim and annual audit schedules.
Explain complex accounting and business issues to the auditors.
Work with auditors and staff to resolve issues and to make appropriate corrections to business processes going forward.
The Accounting Manager reports to the Sr. Director of Accounting. The business partner relationships within the organization include, but are not limited to: Financial Planning & Analysis, Information Technology, Retail, Club Operations, Strategy, Facilities and Development. The Accounting Manager has frequent interaction with the Sr. finance leadership.

Ability to interact with external auditors.
Minimum Educational Level/Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent professional experience.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications
5+ years of work experience with increasing professional responsibilities.
Large company background experience.
Professional level accounting experience should include but is not limited to, general accounting financial statement preparation and research of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
