Risk Engineer Loss Control Specialist Safety - (Central/ Northern CA) - Remote


Crum & Forster provides specialty and standard commercial lines insurance products through our admitted and surplus lines insurance companies.

We are looking for an innovative and talented individual with safety and risk management experience to provide a high level of service to our policyholders and underwriters. The expectation is for this position to service all types of risks written through Crum & Forster. It is preferred to have experience in one or more industry specialties; such as, transportation, food/grocery, agribusiness, wineries, petroleum, or propane industries.

The Risk Engineering group works very closely with many stakeholders including business customers, agents, vendors, underwriters, claims, and other internal resources. A successful candidate will be comfortable working in a collaborative team environment and interacting with all levels of the company.

Job Description:

What you will do:

Risk Engineering is a key contributor to identifying, securing, and retaining desirable accounts which support this goal. This position will have an important role in establishing and promoting risk engineering programs and solutions which directly impact the organizations performance.

  • Servicing the following states: of CA, UT, NV, AZ
  • Perform complete risk evaluations and job site visits to identify client exposures and evaluate controls
  • Develop effective service plans to assist with improving policyholders risk management programs
  • Monitor loss activity and develop and sell the importance of appropriate risk management tools to prevent recurrence of accidents.
  • Develop and conduct safety presentations at conferences, conventions, associations, and industry related groups.
  • Work with underwriting to retain existing accounts and obtain new business opportunities.
  • Ensure that policyholders receive a valued service across all locations to satisfy policyholder and underwriter expectations.
  • Work closely with Underwriting, Claims, and Producers to promote Risk Engineering and develop solutions for their needs.
  • Stay current on existing laws and regulations, emerging technologies, and loss prevention practices.

What you will bring to C&F:

  • Minimum 5 years of loss prevention experience with a multi-line Commercial P&C carrier or safety management experience with in a desired industry specialty.
  • Bachelors Degree. Prefer degree in Safety/Occupational Health, Engineering, or Sciences
  • Prefer to have a professional designation in ASP, CSP, ALCM, ARM, CIH, or OHST
  • Technical skills in the areas of risk assessment, risk analysis, and
  • Knowledge and experience with all lines of business (Auto, General Liability, Property, Workers Compensation, and etc.)
  • Inquisitive thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Bilingual language capabilities. Preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to develop business relationships with customers, peers, and industry contacts.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications such as, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; along with other IOS and Android applications.
  • Discipline to work independently to schedule efficiently and complete work on-time.
  • Ability to travel by vehicle or airplane.
  • A good driving record that meets C & F MVR standards.
  • Overnight travel is routine. Travel could be up to 40%, at times.
  • Ability to perform on-site policyholder inspections requiring extensive walking, climbing stairs or ladders, handling uneven terrain, etc.
  • Ability to move about work sites of varying physical and environmental hazards including moving mechanical equipment, noise, temperature variations, airborne contaminants, etc.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry objects/equipment weighing about 25 pounds.
